Wearing Liquid Lipcolor in Frenemy:

I am loving the current movement bringing back love for the lip gloss. I never fell out of love with lip gloss but I did jump on the liquid lipstick bandwagon and my search for the best liquid lippie led me to Smoak Cosmetics . Smoak cosmetics is a makeup brand by the beautiful and multitalented Shanna Moakler. Today I’m sharing my personal favorites from the collection.

Lip Glosses

First off, I’m a lip gloss lover, and the Smoak lip glosses are amazing. Smoak offers lip gloss in several varieties.

Two favorites that are beautiful worn alone or to top your liquid lipstick or lipstick. I have colors Super Charming and Super Bare. The online product description is “High shine transparent lip gloss. Delivers a luminous, high shine. Never sticky or tacky. Antioxidant Vitamins A and E soften, smooth and protect lips.” This formula definitely lives up to its promises. The color is lovely and gives your lips a beautiful high shine color and at the same time wears comfortably. I love the nourishing ingredients, vitamins A and E ensuring your lips feel soft well after wear.

I also love the Liquid Lustre line. I have the color Satinizer. The website description states, “Super lustrous gloss leaves lips lush, full and sparkling like precious gems. New doe foot applicator delivers even coverage and extraordinary shine. What’s Inside
Lip Plumping Peptide Complex Maxi-Lip helps to stimulate collagen and glycosaminoglycan synthesis, to leave lips looking voluptuous. Marine Filling Collagen Micro-Spheres instantly plumps and hydrates lips, making them smoother and fuller. Mango, Kokam & Shea Butter hydrate and condition lips. Vitamins A, C & E are antioxidant vitamins that help to protect cells from free radical damage.” It definitely lives up to its name and is a subtle, lovely glitter based gloss. I love to wear this as a topper in the center of my lips on lipstick or liquid lipstick to enhance my lip’s shape. The formula is comfortable to wear and the nourishing ingredients ensure softer lips long after wear.

The other lip gloss formula I love from Smoak is the Luxury Lip Gloss. I have the color Skinny Dip which is a lovely nude color perfect to wear alone, or to top your lipstick or liquid lipstick look. This one is a go-to for me. The website description states, “The ultimate in beauty luxury, this formula combines the payoff of a sheer lipstick with the superior shine of a gloss. Formulated with polymer technology, that forms an invisible film that moves with the lips, providing comfort and extended wear. A unique blend of oils help to condition and hydrate the lips so vertical lines and wrinkles appear less noticeable while lips look smoother and younger. Formulated with polymer technology that helps to resist rub-off for extended gloss wear. Multi-tasking featherweight formula imparts superior shine and provides long lasting hydration with glowing color in a single sweep.” It lives up to its description and is comfortable, long wearing, and I receive compliments on this one every time I wear it.

Finally, I also have the Plumping lip gloss in Cloud 9. I am generally not a lip plumping formula kind of girl because I’ve not been a fan of the sensation of my lips burning, but this formula has a lovely tingle that doesn’t feel overwhelming and gives the lips a fuller pouty effect. The website description states, “balmy, ultra-hydrating gloss plumps with sheer color and high-shine, to instantly create the appearance of fuller, softer, more youthful-looking lips. Luscious cardamom and nutmeg-flavored formula works from the inside out, to help diminish the appearance of vertical lines and creases, and regenerate and re-volumize lips.” I think this lives up to its description and my lips feel soft and hydrated during and after wear.

Liquid Lipstick

Liquid lipsticks have been a huge hit for the last few years. On my quest to find a favorite I discovered Smoak’s line. These are perhaps my favorite liquid lipstick formula. They are matte, non-drying and feel super comfortable. Most of all, the colors are gorgeous and flattering for all. I have colors: First Love, Kitten Pink, Almost Innocent and Frenemy. The color payoff is gorgeous, it does not dry out my lips and it is a go to product for me. My favorite two colors are Kitten Pink and Frenemy. Kitten Pink is the perfect nude-pink- it’s the one color I reach for the most regardless of the time of year. It’s super flattering for all and a cannot love without color. Frenemy is a beautiful peachy brown nude color. It is also a perennial favorite and go to color. The website description states,”Luxurious, creamy liquid lipstick. Provides the dazzling, full coverage of a lipstick with the ease of wand applicator. Made with advanced polymers and intense pigments for long lasting, brilliant color and intense shine in a single sweep.” It lives up to its description and is the best creamy liquid lip color. If you are searching for a liquid lip color look no further, Smoak Cosmetics’ formula and color range is stellar.

Lip Liner

Lastly, I’m in love with Smoak’s lip liners. They are long lasting, provide great coverage and come in great colors. I have the colors Naked and Macaroon . I wear them with the glosses and liquid lipsticks. The are super long wearing and DO NOT BUDGE. Seriously, these stay put ensuring your lip look stays out. It’s a winner and our performs some my high end designer brands. These are a must have. The online description states, “Extremely long wearing, waterproof formula glides onto lips for transfer-proof, non-feathering wear for up to 7 hours. Super soft formula provides a precision line and dries down to impart a professional look to the lips.” I love them and you will too!

I love discovering smaller brands that put a lot of thought into their products. Smoak Cosmetics is a favorite since I love a variety of lip products and the formulas and color ranges are excellent. Plus, they are cruelty free and don’t add things like parabens, but the ingredients they do have are nourishing and leave my lips feeling good long after wear. I highly recommend checking out Smoak Cosmetics, you’ll fall in love, just as I have.

Lipstick Moment- Charlotte Tilbury

makeup

Hello dear readers. I am working on a new and improved blog experience, but for now I decided to share some products on my radar that are quite lovely. I am a bit late to the Charlotte Tilbury party, but I think her lipsticks are always in vogue. I follow her Instagram account and have noticed that one lip color in particular is ever present- whether it’s on a super model or an actress prepped for a red carpet event, that is the Pillow Talk lipstick. I am happy to try it and let you know what I think plus two other great lip colors. So, here are three of her popular lipsticks and a lip liner I have recently tested to see if they live up to all of the hype: Matte Revolution lipstick in Pillow Talk and namesake Lip Cheat lip liner, Hot Lips in Super Cindy, and Hot Lips in Kim K.W.

The Matte Revolution texture is a great smooth, not drying formula. I found that the formula stayed put and faded into a lovely stain of color after several hours of wear, I think it also stayed put do to layering on top of the Pillow Talk Lip Cheat Lip Liner. It is described as a “Nude Pink,” however, I feel the actual color pulls more toward the nude brown with a little rose on my lips (for reference I have fair skin and have neutral undertones). I still think this color is pretty and like the formula.

The Hot lips is Super Cindy is a perfect 90’s nude, beige brown with peach tones color. I love this neutral lip color as it is really very wearable. The formula is smooth and does not feel heavy on the lips. It was not drying and felt comfortable. This is definitely one of my favorites.

The other Hot Lips in Kim K.W. is a very light nude color with a hint of pink. I thought this color would wash me out but I was pleasantly surprised by its wear-ability. The formula is the same as Super Cindy and I love the color payoff, non-drying formula.

In all, I would highly recommend the Charlotte Tilbury range. They are beautiful colors that are long wearing and comfortable.

Award Season Fave: Jessica Biel

Award season is in full swing.  I treat award season like holidays.  I have hors d’oeuvres and champagne ready to go, I may or may not dress up.  The first time I can remember watching the Oscars was when Titanic was nominated.  I loved the fashion and the makeup, and well, I still do today.

This past weekend I tuned in to the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards.  I was inspired by the actors who wore black to highlight women’s inequality and injustice in the workplace to support the Times Up Legal Defense Fund.  Men also wore black and some topped their lapels with Times Up pins.  I absolutely love wearing black, and it was stunning on the red carpet. What also made black a wonderful choice, was it highlighted makeup and of course those sparkly jewels.  I especially loved seeing a pop of color on the lips- it stood out beautifully.  My favorite for this trend- the stunning Jessica Biel.

I have always been a fan of Jessica Biel.  She always looks gorgeous on the red carpet, but Globes night- she stunned.  She wore a stunning gown by Christian Dior, shoes by Jimmy Choo, and Jewels by Bulgaria.  Hairstylist Adir Abergel styled Jessica’s hair into a beautifully modern yet classic sculpted ‘do.  But what really stole the show, was her makeup.  Jessica’s longtime makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua  gave Biel a classic eye and a gorgeous pop of color on the lips.  In fact, I had to track down the lip color for myself.  I found Kara Yoshimoto Bua’s Instagram and her stories had a full list of the products she used on Jessica. Kara is a Chanel makeup artist and during award season they hashtag like crazy and you can follow Chanel makeup artists and find out exactly what products they use (should you fancy anything- like I did that fabulous classic pink lippie on Jessica).  Kara gave Jessica a beautifully bold yet sophisticated pink lip look using Chanel’s Lip Definer in Sonic Pink (70) and Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet, Luminous Matte Lip Colour in L’Ecletante (42).  Unfortunately, the lip definer is discontinued, but you can find the lipstick in any department store that carries Chanel, or via Chanel online/ beautiques.

As I am writing right now, I have seen some preliminary images from this evening’s Critics’ Choice Awards and Jessica is wearing another gorgeous lip color.  Kara gave Jessica yet another gorgeous makeup look, and the lip look is gorgeous as well.  More on this look to come… For now, I am getting ready for the 8 pm showing of the Critic’s Choice Awards. Happy watching!

Everyday Glam

makeup

Hey lovelies, I got some new goodies and excited to share.  Let’s start off with the La Mer sample I got in the Neiman’s bag. First off La Mer smells amazing, and it is a thicker consistency, but I love it. It reminds me of the Nivea creme in the blue container, and does smell similar. Obviously, La Mer has active ingredients that differ from Nivea, and I love the glow it gives my skin. Definitely worth the splurge if you can. I let the moisturizer sink into my skin, and actually waited about an hour before I applied my foundation.

Before I apply foundation, I apply Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel. This product is new to me and I love the glow it gives my skin. I’m on the pale side, so I apply a light layer and extend down to my neck. If you haven’t tried it, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the healthy glow, that says, “I just returned from St Bart’s.”

For foundation, I decided to try something new. I applied a light layer of Estée Lauder double wear makeup in 1N2 Ecru. This is my first time using this makeup and I love it. A little goes a long way and it’s great when you plan to take a lot of pictures for the holidays- because it has amazing coverage. So far this foundation does not disappoint.
For blush, I’m loving Chanel Joues Contraste color #55 In Love.  This color is a peachy pink that has great pigmentation and requires little off of the brush to give you a flush of color that looks healthy and vibrant.

Another new product to me is rhe Becca Shimering Skin Perfector Liquid in Champagne Pop- a little goes a long way and I apply between my brows, down the center of my nose, down the top of my cheekbones, and of course across the top of my Cupid’s bow. Then I used a fan brush to dust the same color Pressed powder to set the liquid formula.

For eyes I did a basic smokey eye with Chanel eyeshadow in Tisse Essential, Chanel Stylist Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Pomme de Pin, and topped off my lashes with Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara in Noir. You can find this set, “Look Sharp Eye Set” at Neiman Marcus.

For brows, I used a simple pencil I keep in my kit from e Essence. I found this line at Target and they make great basics.

Lastly, I used Kevin Aucoin’s Flesh Tone Lip pencil and topped off my lips with a beautiful matte liquid Lipstick in Suzy by Chantecaille.

I love this glowing, every day glam look.

Let me know in the comments what your favorite products are right now!

Xoxo,

Maggie

Well, the leaves are falling but it’s still warm here in SoCal. I shouldn’t complain, but I enjoy sweater weather. Well, regardless of the temperatures here, I can spice up the makeup and change it up a little for Fall. Here’s a quick look I did today.
