Award Season Fave: Jessica Biel

Award season is in full swing.  I treat award season like holidays.  I have hors d’oeuvres and champagne ready to go, I may or may not dress up.  The first time I can remember watching the Oscars was when Titanic was nominated.  I loved the fashion and the makeup, and well, I still do today.

This past weekend I tuned in to the 75th Annual Golden Globe Awards.  I was inspired by the actors who wore black to highlight women’s inequality and injustice in the workplace to support the Times Up Legal Defense Fund.  Men also wore black and some topped their lapels with Times Up pins.  I absolutely love wearing black, and it was stunning on the red carpet. What also made black a wonderful choice, was it highlighted makeup and of course those sparkly jewels.  I especially loved seeing a pop of color on the lips- it stood out beautifully.  My favorite for this trend- the stunning Jessica Biel.

I have always been a fan of Jessica Biel.  She always looks gorgeous on the red carpet, but Globes night- she stunned.  She wore a stunning gown by Christian Dior, shoes by Jimmy Choo, and Jewels by Bulgaria.  Hairstylist Adir Abergel styled Jessica’s hair into a beautifully modern yet classic sculpted ‘do.  But what really stole the show, was her makeup.  Jessica’s longtime makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua  gave Biel a classic eye and a gorgeous pop of color on the lips.  In fact, I had to track down the lip color for myself.  I found Kara Yoshimoto Bua’s Instagram and her stories had a full list of the products she used on Jessica. Kara is a Chanel makeup artist and during award season they hashtag like crazy and you can follow Chanel makeup artists and find out exactly what products they use (should you fancy anything- like I did that fabulous classic pink lippie on Jessica).  Kara gave Jessica a beautifully bold yet sophisticated pink lip look using Chanel’s Lip Definer in Sonic Pink (70) and Chanel’s Rouge Allure Velvet, Luminous Matte Lip Colour in L’Ecletante (42).  Unfortunately, the lip definer is discontinued, but you can find the lipstick in any department store that carries Chanel, or via Chanel online/ beautiques.

As I am writing right now, I have seen some preliminary images from this evening’s Critics’ Choice Awards and Jessica is wearing another gorgeous lip color.  Kara gave Jessica yet another gorgeous makeup look, and the lip look is gorgeous as well.  More on this look to come… For now, I am getting ready for the 8 pm showing of the Critic’s Choice Awards. Happy watching!

Everyday Glam

Hey lovelies, I got some new goodies and excited to share.  Let’s start off with the La Mer sample I got in the Neiman’s bag. First off La Mer smells amazing, and it is a thicker consistency, but I love it. It reminds me of the Nivea creme in the blue container, and does smell similar. Obviously, La Mer has active ingredients that differ from Nivea, and I love the glow it gives my skin. Definitely worth the splurge if you can. I let the moisturizer sink into my skin, and actually waited about an hour before I applied my foundation.

Before I apply foundation, I apply Chanel’s Soleil Tan De Chanel. This product is new to me and I love the glow it gives my skin. I’m on the pale side, so I apply a light layer and extend down to my neck. If you haven’t tried it, I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the healthy glow, that says, “I just returned from St Bart’s.”

For foundation, I decided to try something new. I applied a light layer of Estée Lauder double wear makeup in 1N2 Ecru. This is my first time using this makeup and I love it. A little goes a long way and it’s great when you plan to take a lot of pictures for the holidays- because it has amazing coverage. So far this foundation does not disappoint.
For blush, I’m loving Chanel Joues Contraste color #55 In Love.  This color is a peachy pink that has great pigmentation and requires little off of the brush to give you a flush of color that looks healthy and vibrant.

Another new product to me is rhe Becca Shimering Skin Perfector Liquid in Champagne Pop- a little goes a long way and I apply between my brows, down the center of my nose, down the top of my cheekbones, and of course across the top of my Cupid’s bow. Then I used a fan brush to dust the same color Pressed powder to set the liquid formula.

For eyes I did a basic smokey eye with Chanel eyeshadow in Tisse Essential, Chanel Stylist Yeux Waterproof Long Lasting Eyeliner in Pomme de Pin, and topped off my lashes with Chanel Le Volume De Chanel Mascara in Noir. You can find this set, “Look Sharp Eye Set” at Neiman Marcus.

For brows, I used a simple pencil I keep in my kit from e Essence. I found this line at Target and they make great basics.

Lastly, I used Kevin Aucoin’s Flesh Tone Lip pencil and topped off my lips with a beautiful matte liquid Lipstick in Suzy by Chantecaille.

I love this glowing, every day glam look.

Let me know in the comments what your favorite products are right now!

Fall Update

Currently Obsessed With…
Well, the leaves are falling but it’s still warm here in SoCal. I shouldn’t complain, but I enjoy sweater weather. Well, regardless of the temperatures here, I can spice up the makeup and change it up a little for Fall. Here’s a quick look I did today.

I love a good Snap filter. The beautifying filter is so gratifying. I’m not a fan of the animal or character  filters, but I love the crowns of florals, or golden, twinkling butterflies. So, I thought I would share some of my fave snaps of myself, and if you want to find me on Snap Chat, you can find me under maggie_john.
